New York City is expanding facilities and resources aimed at helping homeless and runaway youth.
Under a new plan presented by Mayor Bill de Blasio, the city will add 300 beds specifically for homeless youth over the next three years. The mayor says the resource is essential to helping young people who can't live with their families and need immediate assistance.
“Every one of our young people needs a safe and secure place that they can sleep at night, away from the dangers of our streets,” he said.
Currently there are 400 beds available. The announcement is part of the city’s 90-day overhaul of homeless services.
