The city and state say they’ve come to an agreement on plans to redevelop Penn Station and the surrounding midtown neighborhood. But key details are still missing.
Mayor Adams and Governor Hochul say the city is on board with the state’s plan to allow developers to build 10 skyscrapers in midtown — and use money from leases — to renovate Penn Station.
They say the city will still collect existing real estate taxes on the the properties being developed, with an annual 3 percent increase. The agreement says this could last for 80 years or until the project fees are paid off, but it doesn’t include how much those fees are.
The developer Vornado is building the bulk of the properties and is agreeing to make improvements to the neighborhood and train station.
A recent study found developers could get more than a billion dollars in tax breaks with this deal.
A key vote by the state agency in charge of the project is set for Thursday.
