City Council Passes Slate of Police Reform Bills

The New York City City Council passed a slew of police reform bills on Thursday, including a ban on chokeholds originally introduced after Eric Garner was killed by a police chokehold in 2014. The legislation also includes a bill requiring the NYPD to report on its surveillance technologies and a bill requiring police officers to display their badge numbers — an issue during recent protests.
