City's Public Hospital System Revises Policy for Testing Pregnant Women for Substances

New York City's Health and Hospitals has revised its policy for testing pregnant women for substance abuse, in response to reports of racial bias in who gets tested and who gets reported to child welfare authorities. The city's Administration for Children's Services has also just released guidance to health providers reminding them that a positive drug test alone does not warrant a report of child neglect.
