Connecting Congress: Senator Blumenthal

Senator Richard Blumenthal speaks in West Hartford, Connecticut to outline the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) efforts to raise a healthier generation of Americans on Friday, April 5, 2013.

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) talks about the recent shootings at a Planned Parenthood in Colorado and in San Bernardino, California.

"This experience shows that the most effective laws in one state are no better than the least effective laws in other states," said Senator Blumenthal, "because our borders are so porous, guns can be brought across them."

Senator Blumenthal says the problem of reforming gun legislation will require a comprehensive solution, involving mental health initiatives and increased safety in schools.

He also explained why he's leaning against support the Trans-Pacific Partnership: "My fear is that it will benefit some of our trade competitors because of weaknesses in the environmental and labor law protections more than it will benefit us."
