Crowds Flock To Jersey Shore As Towns Ready For Memorial Day Weekend

Officials along the Jersey Shore said there were definitely large crowds on the beaches and boardwalks this weekend but for the most part beachgoers kept their distance from one another.

Belmar Administrator Edward Kirschenbaum says the borough sold 3,200 beach badges in just two days.

"Because we weren't selling badges for the past couple of months at borough hall, because we didn't know what the future held, people rushed to get badges on Saturday," he said. "That's when we first started to sell our season badges."

Kirschenbaum says Belmar has divided its beach into four sections to try and limit crowds for Memorial Day Weekend. Some ticket booths will also be moved off the boardwalk to create more space for people to socially distance.

State Police Col. Pat Callahan said social distancing was in place this weekend at the beaches and there were no enforcement issues to report.
