Republican Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz released an ad on YouTube telling New York voters that — for a Republican — his rival Donald Trump has doled out lots of money to Democrats.
The ad plays ominous music over graphics that point out that Trump handed New York Democrats more than $600,000 in political contributions.
Some of that cash funded Democrats who later resigned in disgrace, most notoriously former Gov. Eliot Spitzer, who was involved in a prostitution scandal, and Rep. Anthony Weiner, who resigned after flirtatious texts surfaced that he had written to women who were not his wife.
"Trump’s record of electing Democrats proves he’s not being truthful about what he says he supports and what he claims he’ll do. The real Donald Trump is a Democrat and should not be our Party’s nominee,” said Cruz.
Cruz fails to mention in the ad that Trump has also handed contributions to Republicans.
The Trump campaign did not respond to requests for comment; but in debates and elsewhere, Trump has defended his record of supporting both political parties, saying it's good for business.
