Cuomo Dismayed That Senate Stimulus Package Won't Fill Deepening Budget Hole

Gov. Andrew Cuomo says the deal Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer negotiated with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is “terrible,” because it only brings in around $4 billion of aid to the state.

But Schumer and New York's junior Senator - Kirsten Gillibrand - say New York would receive tens of billions of dollars in OTHER funding streams – for hospitals, small businesses and people trying to make ends meet.

"The purpose of this bill is not intended to make the budget whole for any state," she said.

That’s bad news for Cuomo. With the economy slowed to a crawl, the state now says tax revenues could be as much as $15 billion less than originally expected. And the state's budget deadline is next Tuesday.
