DA: NYPD Detective Took Cash to Warn Club Owners About Raids

Members of the Army National Guard are visibly stationed at Grand Central Terminal.

A New York City police detective has been arrested after authorities say he accepted bribes from club owners to alert them about upcoming police raids. Officials say he also encouraged fellow officers to release drug suspects arrested at the clubs.

Yatyu Yam was arrested Monday night on charges of bribe receiving, official misconduct and receiving reward for official misconduct.

Authorities say Yam approached a club owner in December 2013 in Queens, asking to be paid for information on planned raids.

They say he also accepted about $2,000 each month from another club owner for similar information.

The 10-year veteran detective is also accused of calling fellow officers and asking them to release detained suspects who were caught with drugs at the clubs.

Yam's attorney didn't immediately return a call Tuesday seeking comment.
