Part of
Arts Alive From the Algonquin.
Unlike most radio programs, Arts Alive From the Algonquin, did not have regular host but guest hosts who directed the conversation among the invited guests to the hotel's Rose Room. The only regular voice was that of Sandi Klein who, each week, introduced the guest host and his or her panelists. Although the show was not meant to mimic the famous Algonquin roundtable gatherings of the past, it did draw on the historic hotel's notoriety as a gathering place for artists and writers.
The series covered a broad spectrum of arts and cultural issues and included such guests and hosts as Wendy Wasserstein, Jules Feiffer, Larry McMurtry, Clive Barnes, Kitty Carlisle Hart, Edward Albee and Vartan Gregorian. Andrew A. Anspach, a former managing director of the hotel, was executive producer of the series.
