De Blasio Is Making Moves on His Horse Carriage Ban Promise

Mayor de Blasio wants to ban the use of horse-drawn carriages in Central Park by the end of the year.

Two years into office, Mayor de Blasio is making headway on a horse and carriage ban, a piece of legislation he planned to pass his first day in office.

Here's what City Hall passed: 75 horses are allowed to continue plodding around Central Park (down from 220 horses, currently), and pedicabs are banned below 85th street.

WNYC transportation reporter Kate Hinds explains the delay behind the legislation and the details of the new plan. Plus: Brigid Bergin, WNYC's City Hall and politics reporter, discusses the outcome of a four month-long traffic study, which examined how Uber impacted traffic congestion in Manhattan.
