Dedication of the Walt Whitman statue by Jo Davidson at the bear Mountain-Harriman State Park.

Begins abruptly. Myron H Avery, chairman of the Appalachian Trail Conference speaks.

Robert E. Sherwood, author and playwright, speaks about Whitman's life, particularly focusing on the fact that Whitman too lived through war times. and reads his work, "Song of Myself" and an excerpt from "Leaves of Grass." Throughout his speech Sherwood makes comparisons between Walt Whitman and Abraham Lincoln.

References to a proposed super highway. Robert Moses, who speaks about the works of the Parks Department.
