Q Daily, center-left, and Sadie Erickson raise their hands in their third grade classroom at The Brooklyn New School.

A recent This American Life episode, reported by New York Times Magazine staff writer Nikole Hannah-Jones, looked at an unintended school integration plan outside St. Louis, but NYC's schools are among the most segregated in the country.

Brad Lander, city councilman from Brooklyn who chairs the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Elections and is a founding co-chair of the Council’s Progressive Caucus, talks about recent legislation to spur integration in the schools and what it would mean for schools like Park Slope's P.S. 321.  He is joined by Nikole Hannah-Jones, staff writer for The New York Times Magazine, to talk about desegregation in NYC and elsewhere.
