The Bowery Residents’ Committee will continue engaging homeless New Yorkers who sleep in subways over the next three years. That'll cost on average $23 million annually—nearly 40% more than the contract that ends this month.
In January, the state comptroller said BRC’s work was “shoddy” and that it contributed to an increase of homelessness in the subways.
The city’s Department of Social Services said the new contract was awarded after a competitive bidding process and that BRC will be held accountable for connecting people with housing.
