Could This be the End of Private Prisons?

Journalist Seth Freed Wessler joined us last month to discuss his investigation of private prisons and human rights abuses in the U.S. He returns to discuss the Justice Department’s announcement on August 18th that it will end or “substantially reduce” the scope of all its contracts with private prison operators. The announcement follows The Nation’s investigations into those facilities, which found they caused the questionable deaths of dozens of inmates. Wessler's reporting for The Nation was done in partnership with the Investigative Fund of the Nation Institute.
