Eric Trump Makes Time To Stump For His Dad, But Not To Speak With New York's Attorney General

Eric Trump, the son of President Donald Trump, has his tie adjusted before taping his speech for the second day of the Republican National Convention.

The second night of the Republican National Convention featured President Donald Trump's son, Eric, as the headliner, and he used the moment to praise the president's handling of the economy. But just one day earlier, New York's Attorney General took steps to enforce a subpoena against Eric Trump and The Trump Organization, after she said the President's son has so far refused to be interviewed.

According to court documents, New York Attorney General Letitia James is investigating claims made by Michael Cohen, the president's former personal attorney, during a congressional hearing that Trump regularly undervalued his properties in order to lower the amount of taxes owed. It's one of several investigations into the Trump family and its businesses in New York and elsewhere. "Trump, Inc." co-host Andrea Bernstein says the timing highlights yet again the level to which Trump's businesses are intertwined with his administration.

"On the one hand, you have Eric Trump standing up and talking about what an extraordinary businessman his father is, on the other hand, not answering one of the most basic questions that all Americans are subject to, which is 'did you pay the proper taxes?'" Bernstein told WNYC's Jami Floyd.

The Trump Organization has not responded to request for comment.
