Feds Give MTA Green LIght To Move Forward on Congestion Pricing Plans

After two years of delays from the Trump administration, the MTA has finally received the federal green light it needs to move forward with congestion pricing.

The plan to charge drivers entering Manhattan below 60th Street is still a long way off. But the Trump administration had stalled the plan out of the gate. It refused to even tell the MTA what type of Environmental Review was needed to get the project started after it was approved by the state legislature 2019.

MTA Chairman Pat Foye says the preliminary design for the tolling system is already underway. And the battle over how much to charge drivers hasn't even begun yet. Congestion pricing was supposed to go into effect earlier this year and is expected to generate 1 billion dollars a year to fund subway and bus improvements.
