Final Traffic Tally Confirms 2021, Deadliest Year For Traffic Deaths Since 2013

New York City has released its final count of traffic fatalities from last year, the deadliest one since 2013, with 273 people killed by vehicles.

The city can use the data to pinpoint and prioritize the most dangerous neighborhoods. District 31 in Queens, which includes Far Rockaway, Arverne and Edgemere topped the list last year with 11 deaths. Overall though, Brooklyn had the most fatalities at 60.

Mayor Adams has pledged to redesign 1,000 intersections this year to make them safer with raised crosswalks and signal priority for pedestrians. Intersections are where half of all city traffic deaths occur.

There were three crashes so far this week, two of them fatal.
