For years the Trump Administration held up the Gateway Project that would build two new train tunnels under the Hudson and repair damage from superstorm Sandy. This week, the Biden administration lifted that roadblock.
But it could face a new one.
The Biden Administration approved routine documents this week about how the $11 billion project would impact the surrounding environment that now allows the project to move forward.
But Governor Cuomo, who’s paying a quarter of the costs for New York’s share, now says Amtrak extorted the money from the state.
He says if New York is paying, the project managers need to do a smart job, such as the way Cuomo did with the L train tunnel repairs, when trains kept moving while fixes were done at night.
Gateway project leaders say they can’t do it that way, but they welcome any feedback from the Governor.
