For thirty five years now the people of New York City have benefited from the happy inspiration which has brought the Guggenheim concerts into being over the years millions of us have spent fruit and delightful hours listening to the Goldman band either here in central PA or in Brooklyn in Prospect Park. The concerts have become an institution we accept them as we accept the presence of our skyscrapers perhaps as with so many of the good things in our city we take them up bit too much for granted. Tonight however we are all pausing just for a few moments to pay our respects and express off. To the people who have brought so much pleasure to us for our so many years it is fitting that we should do so it is fitting too that we should make some ten Jubilee expression of our gratitude therefore I'm behalf of the people of the city of New York I am presenting these scrawls first to the Daniel and Florence Guggenheim Foundation and second to Dr Edwin Frank Goldman in deep and sincere appreciation of the eight million people that I represent on this occasion So first I'd like to present this scroll to Captain Harry F. These concerts would have died a borning. And we would not be here tonight. To show a break two thousand concert. And anniversary. Thirty six years ago. She collaborated with Dr Goldman determined. To alter and to perpetuate these comps. I think she felt. With Don Quixote that where there's music there can be mischief. The Foundation. Which my parents organized contributed to many projects. But I am sure. That this particular project these goals contrary. To my mother's heart. She expressed a wish to have children follow trustees. That we should prepare to aid these concerts.
