The 2016 U.S. women's gymnastics team is set for the 2016 Rio Olympics and one of New Jersey's own is on the roster.
Laurie Hernandez, at just 16-years-old is the youngest member of the team. She is a native of Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Hernandez is Puerto Rican and the first U.S.-born Latina to score a spot on the team since 1984. She is also the first Puerto Rican woman ever to make the squad.
The Rio Olympics will be her first major international meet. At this year's Olympic qualifiers, she finished second overall to teammate Simone Biles, a three-time world all-around champ considered to be one of the brightest stars on the U.S. team.
She joins returning Olympians Gabby Douglas and Aly Raisman and newcomer Madison Kocian.
