The musical "Hamilton" just snagged a record 16 Tony nominations, the most ever for a single production. That makes the odds of getting a ticket to the show — already a long shot— even worse
But there is another way: if you can sweet talk “Hamilton’s" press agent, you just might have a chance.
His name is Sam Rudy, and he has a casual personal style: grey New Balance sneakers, disorderly office with piles of paper everywhere. Even right under his feet.
But if he makes little effort to impress, it may be because he doesn’t need to flaunt his power. Rudy has the ability to bestow tickets to the hottest show in town, on anyone he thinks is worthy: politicians, celebrities, theater people.
He helped Vogue editor Anna Wintour and two Supreme Court justices get seats for show. Their names, and the names of many other lucky “house” ticket holders, can be found written by hand in a green three-ring binder Rudy keeps near his desk.
