Heinavanker at The Met Cloisters
Tickets: $65. Shows at 1 pm and 3 pm.
The Estonian choir known as Heinavanker sing old Estonian folk hymns and well as ancient runic songs that survive from before the coming of Christianity. Many of those old pagan songs survived because they took on Christian lyrics. And the fact that the songs have changed over the centuries gives Heinavanker license to mix up their vocal styles, from the sounds of Central Asian-style overtone chant to old Estonian songs, along with music by Hildegard of Bingen and Gregorian chant. The Estonian a cappella ensemble Heinavanker performs twice tomorrow afternoon at The Met Cloisters.
