Kicking Off WQXR's 2nd Instrument Drive with School of Rock's Alex Brightman

WQXR’s first instrument drive in 2014 was an enormous success and collected over 3,000 musical instruments for more than 100 public schools throughout the five boroughs of New York City. Actor Alex Brightman, who's starring in "School of Rock - The Musical" on Broadway, joins Graham Parker, General Manager of WQXR, to discuss WQXR’s 2nd Instrument Drive kicking off on April 8th at 12:45 p.m. This year's drive aims to collect at least 6,000 instruments. 

Events: The Kickoff Event will be held on Friday, April 8th from 12:45–1:30 p.m. at Lincoln Center’s David Rubenstein Atrium (61 West 62nd Street). The event will be hosted by WQXR’s General Manager Graham Parker and Elliott Forrest. Featured guest is Carmen Fariña, the current New York City Schools Chancellor/ head of the New York City Department of Education. There will be a performance by students from Long Island City High School and the cast of "School of Rock – The Musical."

On Saturday, April 9th from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m., "Uber Day" will offer free instrument pick-ups within Manhattan and Northern New Jersey. Uber riders can enter promo code GIVEMUSIC on their Uber App to request a vehicle.
