Helping the Ex-Addict Through Poetry Therapy

This recording is a rebroadcast of WNYC's award-winning week-long series, "Narcotics and Narcotic Addiction." This episode features Dr. Jack J. Leedy, the founder of the Association for Poetry Therapy. Host Richard Pyatt leads a discussion with Dr. Leedy and other therapists about the value of poetry in treating drug addiction.

Therapists encourage addicts to write poems about their feelings, conflicts, and symptoms. Additionally, the therapist may bring poems to read to the addict during therapy sessions.
