Homage to the Mayor

New York Mayor Robert F. Wagner at the dedication of the new home of the Fashion Institute of Technology on May 4, 1959.

Honor Mayor Wagner on his departure from City Hall. Rev. Dr. William Rosenblum, Rabbi of Temple Israel, gives the invocation. Rev. Dr. Daniel Potter, Executive Director of the Protestant Council of New York City, speaks of the work of the Committee of Religious Leaders. The work of this committee is ecumenical, studying the relationship of moral and ethical values of the three faiths to motivation and behavior patterns of young people and adults. Looking at the rise of crime in New York City led to the organization of this group to see what can be done to improve the moral and ethical values of the people of New York. Speaks of 10 committees of this Committee of Religious leaders and what they have accomplished. Speaks of the encouragement Mayor Wagner has given to this committee.

Arthur Rogers, Executive Director of New York City Youth Board, mentions the good work the committee has done. Rev. Dr. Grant Anderson, Executive Director of the Queens Federal of Churches, reads from Scriptures, reads from Proverbs.

Rabbi Harold H. Gordon, Executive V.P. of New York Board of Rabbis, speaks of the importance of thinking of religion not as something up in the clouds but as something that affects our daily life.

Rabbi Gordon speaks in praise of Mayor Wagner, who initiated this committee and gives him a citation. Mayor Wagner thanks the clergymen for the citation and tells an excellent anecdote. He then speaks of progress on some problems through the work of the clergy.
