Beginning Friday afternoon at 3PM, The Jonathan Channel celebrates the birthday of Ella Fitzgerald. For over five decades, Ella Fitzgerald dominated the jazz world and tomorrow afternoon, we're having a party. From 3PM to 7PM, WQXR's Terrance McKnight hosts a musical tour through the life of this dynamic performer. 

A master interpreter of the Great American Songbook, Ella Fitzgerald's three octave range gained her international attention. By the time of of her death in 1996, Ella Fitzgerald had more than earned the nickname "The Queen of Jazz", having won 14 Grammy Awards and selling over 40 million records. Tomorrow afternoon, WQXR's Terrance McKnight delves into the personal history of Ella Fitzgerald, beginning with her first appearance at the Apollo when she was 17-years old.
