Hundreds Shut Down FDR In Fifth Day of Protests

Though parts of the city were ransacked by looters Monday night, most protests around the city were peaceful.

A chain of protesters spilled across lanes of the FDR, their backs against the New York City skyline and a wall of NYPD officers. Organizer Jasmin Sanchez kept the crowd tight and moving, discouraging protesters trying to agitate the crowd.

"Keeping everything very civil, that's how we're going to get our voices and our message across," Sanchez, 41, said.

Tensions remained low. There was no pepper spray, no violent clashes, no fires set as police allowed protesters to chart their course through the Lower East side, shutting down Houston Street when hundreds took a knee and held up their fists, chanting "George Floyd."
