Accounts of Violent Guard Abuse at a New York Prison

In this photo taken Wednesday May 20, 2015, a guard tower and razor wire are seen at California State Prison, Solano in Vacaville, Calif.

Tom Robbins, a CUNY Journalism School Investigative Journalist in Residence, and reporter for The Marshall Project, investigated reports at the Mid-State Correctional Facility where prisoners were reportedly beaten by guards for his latest article, “Inmates Say They Paid a Bloody Price for a Guard's Injury.” Robbins writes that over the course of two hours, according to inmates, “officers beat and stomped on each of the more than 30 prisoners present that morning, screaming curses and racial epithets and destroying property.”
