Tensions between activists and police officers have been boiling over across the country. But in Mount Vernon, a small city just north of the Bronx, police leaders are trying to meet the demands of Black Lives Matter protesters. Mount Vernon police officers have marched with protesters, and the police commissioner recently joined a rally. The city has also also hung a Black Lives Matter banner across the street from the police department.
