Show all the Star-Spangled Banner by one of the stars of the cast of the play call me Mr I have pleasure in presenting Mr Larry went us. I man of home we are all proud because of a splendid work as mayor of the city of New York it is my pleasure as well as my privilege to present to you is on of the mayor of city of the city of New York William O. D. while. Reverend yes gold star mothers. Officers and men of the Kings County Legion and friends. Today is a celebration. Is fitting. It is Father's Day. When young and old we are called upon. To pay our respects. To fatherhood. This day. Is a good day. For young and old. Are every race on every tree. To acknowledge again the common Father of God in him. And the common brotherly a relationship between every one of us no matter what our religion no matter what race or color are opting in today we must dedicate ourselves to that principle because it is on that principle that our democracy is founded. The fathers of this nation. Man went through truly warrants a man whose struggles around the consultation. Finally gave us this basic principle almost pointing a finger at unborn generations and saying to them. Your democracy is pure in its conception because it is based upon this brotherly principle this common fatherhood this brotherly prince if you will preserve that you don't cannot lose the democracy that we are giving to you as our heritage. Until the fathers of our nation these founding fathers who gave us this beautiful concept this concept that has made a scrag going little nation along the Atlantic seaboard strong purpose all pushing its front tears inch by inch against them arms of nature over mountains through viruses over rivers of the plains over mountains again on till we finally came to the western sea and throughout it all as thirty million grew do one hundred and thirty five million in this great expense not once in the generations that have gone have they varied in that basic principle or it would not be fair. At this meeting to call attention to the fact that in some parts of our nation they are not yet fully apprised of this basic principle but it is your duty and mine not to let up on until every inch of this ground is again dedicated and consecrated to the basic principles of common Brotherhood and the descendants of a common five. Over our years men have died and women too in defense of this principle one war after another has come and we have always said by you many of you with all your sacrifices you have yet seen the glorious preservation of that principle no later than two years ago Lingen we have established one truth that this principle is ours on that of the sacred and then with our lives will defend it ladies and gentlemen and it has been said over and over again that there are dangers from with that but there are dangers also from way then and one great danger from within is the danger of intolerance and bigotry. And we cannot be faithful to our trust just by mumbling constantly mumbling a principle and doing nothing more about it. Intolerance. They get free race hatred among ourselves but then our shorts is the greatest of all and dangerous. And then wanted to be worthy of the heritage of the founding fathers. It is not enough that we once in a while say that we don't want to be bigoted we don't want to be friends with being in surrender columns already takers it's not enough and not of them be worthy of our heritage ladies and gentlemen that principle must be on the hot on each and every one of us and no less will suffice. Again. On one of the auspices of the Kings County American Legion we meet and this time we meet under the auspices of the. Three face the Protestant The Jewish and the cat on this platform oddly representatives of the three faiths on the platform are men and women who draw no line listening to me I am home the citizens of Bob Barr who drawn a line no line of race no line of free no line of color but look at this principle up today the common fatherhood of God the condiment brotherhood of our city. The message in concept of the founding fathers and something to which we today and tomorrow and every day not only can what must dedicate ourselves for God's glory and in behalf of the nation that we love. To thank you and I ask you to go to the next meeting which is in the Bronx I'm sure we'll all excuse him and give him to the citizens of the Bronx for another bottle. And thanks a lot to you Mr Mayor I'm sure I express the gratitude of every person again today at your graciousness in coming in to our meeting and delivering such a splendid American address. We are gathered here today because we love America. We are gathered here today because we challenge our cherished rather the ideals on which our nation has been founded and on which she has prospered we are gathered here and most important I think of all. And this is something that is really distinctly American all face united as Americans. That is the lesson up today's meeting right here to demonstrate that in America. We have only one test to apply and that is whether or not a person is a good decent honorable American citizen. Some years ago shortly after. This annual meeting. Was talked about. And eventually came to be an event and I knew all of that during the years of the Lloyd had to be. Postponed And today we're getting it reinstituted. I don't think that it would be proper unless we said a word or two about the man who started this movement way back in nineteen twenty a most distinguished soldier. A great judge one of the follow citizens of. It was he who can see the idea of this annual demonstration of the unity of America we're very happy to have him here today and I'm sure you would want me to ask him to stand up and take a bow I have great pleasure in presenting general jar's Albert win games.
