Host Helga Davis talks with Bryndon Cook, who at 17 established his band Starchild & The New Romantic blending R&B, jazz, pop, and funk and creating a sound wholly his own. At 20, Bryndon Cook went on tour with Solange while still going to college for acting. And at 24, in February 2018, Cook released his debut album, Language. Language is a sexy and funky work of art that traces a narrative of a strained relationship and ultimately heartbreak.
In this conversation, Cook and Davis discuss the album, embracing identity in the age of #BlackLivesMatter and #MeToo, and how that identity is intertwined with one’s art.
Tickets are available here for the Friday, March 9 album release party for Language in The Greene Space at WNYC/WQXR, hosted by Davis.
