A dramatization of the life of the heavy-weight champion of the world, Joe Louis.
This is followed by Justice Stephen S. Jackson, Director of the NYC Juvenile Welfare Council introducing the winners of the previous week's essay contest "What I Liked About the Broadcast". But first, Celia Violenese, (sp?) of Harlem's Wadleigh High School dramatic club reads "A Colored Soldier's Prayer" -- dedicated to all those men fighting a the double battle.
The previous week's program was about the life of C.C. Spaulding, head of the North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. The winners of last week's contest read their essays about Spaulding. They are 13-year-old John Flegenhemier and 11-year-old Louis Nunez.
Flegenheimer reads: "I liked this broadcast because it described the courage and the perseverance of a Negro boy who had a sincere desire for an education..."
Jackson closes by saying more Harlem children will appear on future "Great American" programs on WNYC.
