We often say the next big thing is visiting places you didn't know existed, even though you go by them every day. This week, that means looking behind the refrigerator or, more precisely, behind the entrance to a little refrigerator repair shop in the Bronx. It's going inside what appears to be just another apartment building on the Upper West Side; it's under the grand arches of the Brooklyn Bridge. What else? You tell us: thenextbigthing@wnyc.org.

Five Sounds in Search of an Author:
Listen carefully
In between these sounds is a story and it's up to you to write it. Once again, The Next Big Thing is inviting your ideas on ways to weave a plot out of seemingly unrelated sounds. Author and Next Big Thing contributor Jesse Green will choose a winner to read his or her story on our show. You'll hear the results next week.
E-mail your stories Tuesday, June 19, 2001. Please include a daytime phone number. And remember, the time it takes to read them should come close to the time it takes to hear the sounds (about 30 seconds). Good luck!

Poetry Walk
It's not every day you can hear poetry on the Brooklyn Bridge. It's every year. And this year the event put on by Poet's House has a surprise celebrity guest. Surprisingly, it's not Next Big Thing Producer Curtis Fox, but he'll tell all.

The Music of Refrigeration Repair
Part I: Meet Juan de Jesus Coco, who runs Coco Refrigeration on East 181st Street in the Bronx. He's from the Dominican Republic and is one of so many New Yorkers with talents you might not know about unless you're really listening.
Part II: And speaking of listening.... Inside Coco Refrigeration, things are really heating up. Host Dean Olsher sits in on the Wednesday night rehearsal of CocoMerenson. Their first major record came out two weeks ago. It's called, "Rescate Del Son" on Coruba Records. Produced by Emily Botein.
