Photo of Knox Martin at the 'Venus Wall' painting when it was being painted on 19th Street near the West Side Highway in 1970.

Artist Knox Martin talks with show host Doris Freedman about the creation and meaning of his massive painting along the West Side Highway in Manhattan. Martin says he has a love affair with New York City and calls Venus Wall a "celebration of life". He explains all the colors of this abstract work with their meaning and representation. According to the artist, the selection of the art site was critical as was the role played by city and state officials in his getting access to the wall for a period of seven years for displaying the work.
