How to Spot Fake Food, from Sawdust Cheese to Artificial Crab Meat

Larry Olmsted reveals why you don't know what you're eating, and what you can do about it.

Journalist Larry Olmsted takes us inside the unregulated food industry in his book Real Food/Fake Food: Why You Don't Know What You're Eating and What You Can Do About It. Olmsted talks about what foods to avoid -- Parmesan cheese filled with sawdust, fake lobster meat, deceptive labeling on olive oil --  and travels to the sources of the real stuff to help us recognize what to look for, eat and enjoy.

Events: Larry Olmsted will be at R. J. Julia Booksellers (768 Boston Post Rd. Madison, CT) on Wednesday, July 13 at 7 p.m.

On Thursday, July 21 at 7 p.m., he'll be speaking and signing books at the Barnes & Noble on the Upper West Side (2289 Broadway at 82nd St.).
