Suicide Rates Among Black Teenagers on the Rise

A new study by the McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research at New York University shows an increase in rates of suicide attempts among Black teenagers across the United States. 

The McSilver Institute primarily does research about the root causes of poverty and they uncovered this disturbing trend from data collected from 1991 to 2017, which shows a 73% increase in suicide attempts by black teenagers.

Advocates and law makers in New York State are calling on Governor Cuomo to sign legislation seeking to create a State Black Youth Suicide task force.
