Longtime Police Reform Activists Capitalize on Massive Uprising

It took only a handful of days for New York lawmakers to pass a set of police reform bills earlier this month—some had been sitting on the shelf for 4 years. City lawmakers passed their own accountability laws, and are now considering a significant cut to the NYPD’s budget. While the massive protests seemed to have jerked lawmakers to attention, it was long-time activists who handed over concrete plans. WNYC’s Yasmeen Khan spoke to some of them about this moment in police reform, and what's ahead.
