The New York primary has come and gone, but the Connecticut and New Jersey primaries are just around the corner. Both states hold closed primaries, and the deadlines for registered voters to switch parties have passed. But if you're a new or unaffiliated voter, here's what you need to know:
Connecticut:
Connecticut voters will head to the polls on Tuesday, April 26. While residents must be registered as either a Republican or Democrat in order to cast a vote, new and unaffiliated voters can register in person with a local clerk until noon on Monday, April 25.
For more information, visit the office of the Connecticut Secretary of the State.
New Jersey:
New Jersey residents still have a few weeks to prepare for their primary election, which is set for June 7. The deadline for new voters to register is May 17, but New Jersey has no system for registering online - new applications have to be mailed to the New Jersey Division of Elections. While voters also have to be registered as either Republicans or Democrats in order to cast a vote in the primary, unaffiliated voters can choose a party on Election Day at their poll site.
