The Magic Behind Washington D.C.'s Spin Machine

In Republic of Spin: An Inside History of the American Presidency, presidential historian David Greenberg traces the history of highly crafted press conferences, image making and narrative creation in American political news and media. One key example, shown in the photo above, is when President George W. Bush stood under a "Mission Accomplished" banner on the deck of the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln in May 2003.
Event: David Greenberg will be talking about and signing copies of his book at The Half King (505 West 23rd Street, Manhattan) on January 25th at 7:00 p.m.
