Mayor de Blasio is hoping to pressure the MTA to move forward with its congestion pricing program. That’s the plan that was passed in 2019 to charge drivers that enter Manhattan below 60th Street. But it could still be long time before that happens.
Congestion pricing was held up by the Trump administration for nearly two years. Now, Biden’s people have pushed it to the next phase, but are waiting for the MTA to submit routine documents.
De Blasio is jumping to the next phase -- appointing his representative to a panel that will help determine the costs drivers will pay. The other 5-members of that group however, have yet to be chosen by the MTA.
At the last board meeting, the MTA’s Chief Financial Officer said the agency doesn't even need the money from congestion pricing right now, it has enough for its current projects.
