More Bike Racks Coming to Metro-North Trains

If you're riding the rails on Metro-North, soon it will be easier to bring your wheels along too: the transit agency is installing new bike racks on 50 M-8 rail cars, which are used on the New Haven Line.
MTA spokesperson Marjorie Anders says that means about 12 percent of the New Haven Line will be able to carry bicycles. "The racks "are going to be scattered around the system," she said. "We'll try to space them out so that any given train will have a bike rack."
Anders said there will be decals inside cars noting where the bike racks are. Bicyclists should check with the conductor to determine which car contains the racks.
Bicycles are prohibited on MTA commuter rail during morning and evening rush hours (see times) and passengers carrying them must have a permit.
The Connecticut Department of Transportation is funding the installation of the racks. Work should be completed by November.
