Long Island Rail Road says riders should expect delays and cancellations during their morning commute following a freight train derailment west of Hicksville.

The agency says crews are continuing to work to re-rail the freight cars that derailed Tuesday afternoon and repair damaged track.

Trains are operating on one of two tracks between Westbury and Hicksville. About a third of LIRR trains are being canceled Wednesday morning.

Eastbound train service on the Ronkonkoma, Huntington and Port Jefferson branches is suspended between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m.

Westbound trains are bypassing Carle Place and Westbury.

The freight train was carrying construction material when two of the train's 16 cars went off the track Tuesday afternoon. No injuries were reported.
