Most NJ Schools Will Start The Year With Mix Of In-Person, Remote Learning

With about a week to go before most schools in New Jersey are scheduled to reopen, about 25 percent of districts and charter schools are still working with the state on finalizing what exactly the new academic year will look like.

Of 800 submitted plans, Gov. Phil Murphy said the state's cleared a majority of districts to reopen with a mix of in-person and remote instruction. Another 150 districts were approved for a fully virtual start. Fifty will welcome all students back into the classroom.

Murphy said he wants to make sure individual districts have the flexibility to decide what works for their teachers and students "as opposed to dealing with a huge monolithic reality" like New York City schools.

Districts will have to follow strict protocols should a student or staffer contract COVID-19.
