Mount Vernon Suspends Officer Who Discussed Safeguarding Drugs for Suspect On Secretly Recorded Tape

According to three police sources, the Mount Vernon Police Department has suspended a police officer following WNYC’s publication of a secret recording in which the officer described safeguarding crack cocaine for a drug dealer who was friendly with the department’s now disbanded narcotics unit. The officer, John Campo, talked about committing the evidentiary violation during a phone call which was secretly recorded by a colleague, Murashea Bovell, a department whistleblower who is still on the force.
