MTA leadership says they’re worried that NYPD officers aren't patrolling the subways enough. They say a stronger police presence could've prevented recent crimes.
In the last two weeks alone, a man pulled out a gun and shot another man at 6pm on a 14th Street platform. Another brazen attack left a woman hospitalized after she was shoved onto the tracks in Times Square, at 10 a.m.
It’s these kinds of incidents that have Transit President Sarah Feinberg worried about subway safety.
"Shame on us if we get to a point where we either give up or decide that we’ve reached some level of crime is acceptable, it’s just not," Feinberg said.
The NYPD says overall crime is down, and suspects in both of those incidents are in custody and awaiting charges. The NYPD wouldn't say whether patrols on subways have decreased.
