MTA Tallies Up $100M in Damage from Ida, Seeks to Work with City to Shore up Stations

The dramatic videos of waterfalls rushing down subway entrances, geysers erupting in the middle of platforms, and tracks submerged in water don’t tell the story of what happened next. The MTA pumped out 75 million gallons of water from the subway system, getting trains running again within hours.

Still, the agency expects it suffered $100 million dollars in damages.

The acting chairman says the agency will work with the city to identify the most flood prone stations and figure out how to fix them. He also plans to update the capital plan with new flood resiliency projects.
