My Dad is An Essential Worker

WNYC’s series, The United States of Anxiety has been covering the disproportionate impact Covid-19 is having on Black people around the country. Here in New York City, African-Americans make up 22% of the population, but 28% of fatalities. And for many people sheltering at home is not an option. People of color make up 75 percent of the city's essential workers. One of those workers is producer Veralyn Williams’ dad. She shares how he’s weathering this pandemic with host Kai Wright.

To hear how the resiliency Veralyn’s dad embodies contributes to why Covid-19 kills black people at disproportionate rates, listen to the full episode here. And subscribe to the United States of Anxiety wherever you get your podcasts.
