The sun rises behind the Statue of Liberty a day before the United States celebrates its independence, Sunday, July 3, 2016, in Jersey City, N.J.

Jules Schweren, war refugee and concentration camp survivor moves to an American small town. He gets a job in the local general store but feels isolated because he is a foreigner. Befriended by some locals he is alienated by the xenophobic small talk of others. When he decides to leave the area a town meeting is called to discuss the community's response to the refugees plight. Local people promise to changer their ways and ask Jules to stay. He accepts. Closing: Rubin B. Resnick speaks about the plight of the displaced person and the "Good Neighbor" program of the USNA.
