A new map has been released to promote an Edward Hopper show at the Whitney Museum of American Art.
The pins on the map all represent places painted by the artist. They are often documents of New York City history and a nostalgic city life—he largely ignored new or fancy buildings. The present-day photos that accompany the paintings show a deeply changed skyline, with skyscrapers towering over or even replacing Hopper's chosen landmarks. Exhibit curator Kim Conaty tells WNYC, the paintings reveal Hopper's dislike of gentrification.
"Edward Hopper's New York" is on view at the Whitney through March 5, 2023.
